Sounds like a good candidate for the wiki. Come up with a comprehensive list of huts, and a means of deriving a points value to each hut, and then list them on a wiki page.

Any of you hutbaggers ever been to Lake Rufus hut?? We stayed there last night luckily cause it was COLD and snowy!!!!! and we were WET and tired

The rufus hut has a friend who has put in a lot of recent work, now virtually completed.
He is a workmate of mine who just likes to spend some time there. Further info? send pm.

It's another old hydro hut. Never been there and don't know what condition it would be in, but if you get in contact with some Tassie kayakers they may know, or tastrekker seems to know a bit about the hydro huts.

hmmmm....... Theres a challenge for the hut.....maybe we should start posting the locations as above then try and follow it up with a photo?
I am interstate until next year so i'm on hold for a bit.... then have scotts peak planned... then might have to find this one n do it up a bit maybe.... unless someone readin this checks it out earlier for fun?! i think the water would be the easiest access... otherwise you'd have to go off from the old port davey track... cheers n happy hutbaggin!.... maybe 10 points to be first to photograph a "new" hut!

Here is my modest contribution. I added in Luuk Veltkamp's Hydro Hut. There are a few more on the forum I haven't caught up with yet.

Anyone care to elaborate! I can feel a Wiki List coming on.

If you would like to help put a list together, you can post notes on any hut or ruin, including map information if desired and even pictures, in the "Huts" section of the Wiki.

If you don't want to edit a new Hut page yourself, then just type your notes up in a word processor and email the file to me with your request to add the file to the Wiki. Email me at my user name at gmail.com.

And have found two of the three "hidden" Wellington park huts so far.... still have 1 to find yet....
(and no i probably wont say where exactly but one of them is within sight of the casino and bridge...)
Still want to find out more history on them... i sent an email tp the hut preservation society as i was interested in joining and helping out but HAD NO RESPONSE! - i guess they have all the help they want

Apologies from the Mountain Huts Preservation Society but they haven't received your original email. If you contact the secretary, Ian, on the address given at their website, http://www.mountainhuts.com.au/ , you will be assured of getting a quick response and a warm welcome. We spent Sunday working on Basil Steer's hut on the February Plains and had a couple of visitors who also got stuck in. Many hands make light work. This hut has gone from a burnt down ruin to a wonderful restoration. The MHPS Annual General Meeting is on Wednesday 25th August at Deloraine (Deloraine Club 7:30), come along and say hi. Every one with an interest in preserving our bush heritage is welcome.

there's 3 (that i know of) huts "hidden" in Wellington Park to find (perfect for respectful weekend warriors)... you can get clues where they are from the scenery in photos of them... good excuse to explore the mountain a bit

Regarding the Davey River Hut, it is a great example of a historic hut worth our attention. The hut, due to its remote location is a genuine time capsule. There is food on the shelves, books in the cupboards, all left as is from the 1960s. Also a 1965 calendar on the wall! Its remoteness has protected its history as only a handful of people have been there since the Hydrogrphers left in the 60s. I am still working on photographing these huts and have yet to get to the huts that I have listed on another post, on the Gordon river. I will post some photography soon.
I love the Wiki idea and would love to contribute!

Feel free to get stuck in and start adding (or editing) to the wiki any time. If you need help, just post to the 'wiki' forum. Or if you don't want to do the actual wiki editing yourself, fee free to just post to the forum and then make a request or recommendation in the 'wiki' forum for anybody else to add that information to the wiki.

Google Earth has just updated the Gordon river area photography in the last week or so, a bit of hunting around I came across 2 more hut sites which are new to me. Does anyone have any info about them. They are inside the WHA so would need parks approval. Just copy and paste into google earth:

Hi Luuk - thanks for that - I plugged them in and the new resolution is great. I already had a "thing" for the Gordon - as in would love to paddle ,walk , explore it. Then you came along with some 'new huts' (4 in fact) - so Google Earth got a work out and the dreams began (still ponder the Davey River Hut). The two you mentioned above are obviously cleared around, so that would indicate current use? May need another topic but what do you know about walking along the Gordon (all or any of it). Know anything about the float plane access? I would love to throw 5 days at an adventure (preliminary)- paddle up and walk the Angel Cliffs Track? - Start from Strathgordon and walk down? Fly in and walk? Would like your thoughts.
Another thing - looking around on Google Earth (love it) at Port Davey etc. etc. you are everywhere with fantastic photos.
How do you get around? Sea Kayak? Yacht and Walk? There is a fascinating story behind you I am sure , and I would encourage you to tell it. A new thread perhaps?

Thanks, I have walked down from the Gordon Dam, to get to one of the huts but have so far not been successful, I might have a better chance in summer. The walking is ok well above the river but still hard work even in summer. It would be a great trip to head down the Gordon from the dam. The Sea planes only go up as far as Sr John Falls, but a small inflatable boat might be an option.
I will be doing a rafting trip down the Denison in the first week of Feb, and we should be able to get to most of the huts. I work as a pilot for Par-Avion so I am in the SW almost every day, also seem to spend my spear time there, hence the photos on Google earth!
Love to know about any trips planned around the Gordon, I have some contacts who can help with access.

Attached is a photo of the Davey River Hut.

Also, the Olga hut on the Gordon river as seen on Google Earth shows a bright section of roof. I flew over the hut about a month ago to find the roof peeled back, probably from a big wind, the bright spot seen in the google photography is the foil insulation leaving a big hole. The hut will not last to long in this state so it would be great to organise a trip to see what could be done to fix it. This hut, like the davey hut is full of old hydro gear and untouched history and needs to be documented and protected!

No problems, I think that president Roger has been out of the state but I will give him a serve anyhow. If you don't have any luck with Ian (which I doubt) get back to me. Our heritage needs lots more friends, great to see a strong interest.

I have just done a fly over of the old hydro huts on the Gordon River, the bad news is that the Albert Rapids hut has compleatly collapsed and the Olga Camp hut looks worse then it did only 3 months ago, photos attached!
