This circuit walk in Mount Hyland Nature Reserve will take you through World Heritage rainforest with a picnic spot at the end. Take the side trip to the top of Mount Hyland at 1,434m for more views of the area.

Start
On Mount Hyland Walking Track (800 m South East of Hardens Road), Marengo. (-30.1787002,152.4220124)
From Armidale Road, Hernani, head north-west along Marengo Road;
After 2.4km, turn slight left on to Marengo Road Hernani.
After another 8.9km, turn right on to Hardens Road Marengo.
After another 6km, continue straight along Mars Road Marengo.
After another 1.1km, come to the trackhead on Mars Road Marengo.

After another 10m, pass a picnic table (on the left).
Then almost immediately (at the 3-way intersection, with & Mount Hyland Walking Track) continue straight, to follow the Mount Hyland Walking Track.
The starting point of an optional sidetrip. Side trip to the top of Mount Hyland with great views of the area. To start this optional side trip take the left fork here. When you have finished this side trip, head back to the main route and to continue. Details below.
After another 850m, (at the intersection) , to stay on the Mount Hyland Walking Track.
After another 2km, pass a picnic table (on the left).
After another 10m you come to the end, Marengo. There is a picnic table here.
Side trip to the top of Mount Hyland with great views of the area.

Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 program NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs. Aerial baiting and ground baiting is scheduled from 8th June 2025 to 8th December 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of Wild dogs and Foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
