Booyong(Tree Top) Walk

Starting from Lamington National Park Road, O’Reilly, this circuit walk takes you up next to the rainforest canopy via a boardwalk consisting of 9 suspension bridges, standing 15 metres above the ground. Be prepared to embark on a small journey on the world’s first treetop walk, built by Peter O’Reilly and Peter Main along with the help of GMNHA(Green Mountains Natural Historic Association) in 1987. There are more than 160 bird species along with other wildlife residing in the lush rainforests of Lamington, and this track will let you observe them like you’ve never done before. Eastern whipbirds, catbirds and Australian logrunners will be sitting next to the boardwalk, along with heaps of rosellas. Informative signposts along the way won’t let you miss out on the interesting flora as well. There is also a ladder midway through the walk, where the adventurous can climb up and come to another deck that is an astounding 30 metres above ground. The experience is completely free, but if you want to help out with managing the track you can drop a few coins in the donation box at the end. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the end of Lamington National Park Road(near O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat), head towards the high “Booyong Walk” sign located at the start of the boardwalk. Head along the boardwalk as it veers right and leads you into the woodland to continue along Booyong(Tree Top) Walk.....

	After another 35 m (at the intersection of Tree Top Walk & Booyong Walk) turn sharp right, to head along Tree Top Walk.
	After another 50 m veer left, to head along Tree Top Walk. Then cross the bridge (about 130 m long) Then come to the "Tree Top Walk Ladder" (on your right).
	After another 100 m (at the intersection of Booyong Walk & Tree Top Walk) turn left, to head along Booyong Walk. After another 40 m (at the intersection of Booyong Walk & Tree Top Walk) continue straight, to head along Booyong Walk. After another 50 m continue straight, to head along Booyong Walk.
	After another 285 m come to the end.

  If it's flooded, forget it - even on our walking tracks! (update)
  As a result of recent heavy rainfall, some walking tracks within the above-mentioned protected areas may be experiencing natural hazards, such as creeks with rising and fast flowing water, flash flooding, and potential for landslides and rock falls. Bushwalkers may also encounter falling trees or recently fallen trees, due to soft saturated ground.   Annual closure period for all Lamington bush camping areas

  Temporary walking track closure - Lower Bellbird track. (update 28 Oct)
  Due to the potential for rock fall associated with construction works on private property above the Lower Bellbird track, a section of the walking track will be temporarily closed between Rankins Paddock and the junction of the Ships Stern circuit until further notice, to ensure visitor safety.   Partial track closure - West Canungra Creek circuit (update 27 Sep)
  Due to significant fallen trees and landslide which is obstructing the track and impeding safe visitor access, the West Canungra Creek circuit in the Green Mountains section of Lamington National Park is only partially open in a clockwise direction to Yerralahla Pool (Blue Pool).
