Hi , I'm trying to find a new Jacket that fits this description ?

100 % Fully waterproof
extremely lightweight under 500 grams even under 300 grams would be better , packs' very small .
Hood that fold's away into the collar or zip's away ( better )
Seam sealed
Event material would be great but something else as long as it's 100 % waterproof .
Under $300

I like the Montane Air but over my budget I'm afraid AND the Mac Pac too
My local shop suggest s Outdoor Research , what about Rab or Patagonia ? Any others I should consider ?
Am I asking too much ?

Well, 370gms, but the extra zip in collar and tougher fabric accounts for that..

Well,no. I've sold the traverse jacket for $299.95 on a special before, so if that's the way you decide I can do it again. Let me know.

I have the traverse that Blacksheep recommends and have been happy with it. Can't remember what I paid, probably $300 or $330 on 'sale'.

Had it about 6 months and it has seen a few decent rainfalls and it has kept me dry. I haven't had it in a whole day of rain (tasmania style) yet but I can't imagine there being a problem. I like the long sleeves, lightweight and small pack size. Has the features you need and none you don't (except I may never pack the hood away).

DWR seems to be wearing off pretty quickly but no surprises there, will wash and re-proof soon.

Integral Designs looks good as well, but macpac is tempting as it is easy to see in the flesh and try before buying.

I second the Macpac Traverse - very happy with it's performance, weight, price ($330 at the time), features (all you need, none you don't).

dont think you will get one for under $300 unless on sale. But im reading good things about Polartec NeoShell. Something to think about anyways.

..except i also want a jacket that is long enough to cover my backside. 95% of the jackets i've seen in stores are "hipster" cut... doesn't work very well in real life!!

Try them on. Mine covers my backside just fine, not thighs as some people prefer though.

Haven't tested it myself however when i was looking at buying a prophet XPD i posted a topic about jackets and i had quite a few people saying that occured, especially if you get dirt in it. However that is the Prophet XPD so you may achieve different results. Just wanted to make you aware about the problem. Also on a side note lately Macpac gear seems to be of 'lesser quality' i am a Macpac fan i simply observed that the sewing on jackets and workmanship seems to have slipped (at least on clothing), the first prophet i looked at had a broken pitzip because there was material over the zip or something =D Just check the jacket out, im sure anything macpac should still stand the test of time, perhaps i should speak to Blacksheep. Also lastly other brands are coming uut with other materials aswell such as Dry Q and the Stoic Vapourshell.

Thanks for the reply Blacksheep, i appreciate you're acknowledgment rather than just brushing the claim aside, i still love macpac and their gear and im sure it will last years. As for the difference between DryQ and eVent the one thing i noticed was DryQ has a 'guaranteed to keep you dry' claim, as for breathability im sure there will be little or no difference either way between the two. I still prefer the macpac jacket as i love the hood (BEST FEATURE) as it is soo well designed and the thought to as where the reinforcements are etc, it just reflects the quality of macpac. Aah, that is the nature of the DWR treatment and face fabrics involved and can occur with any waterproof/breathable fabric (gore, event, hyrdonaut, blah blah blah). It is not specific to event and will occur in all wp/b fabrics with time. Macpac seems to be getting a bad rap for this occurring quickly on these forums, time will tell if it justified or not.

So I finally got a jacket , the Goodawana Kanyaka , a tad heavier than I wanted( 400 grams) but ticks nearly all the boxes for what I want especially for the $ , Anaconda has a sale on starting today reduced from $189 to $100 . I loved the Outdoor research helium but the hood dosn't pack away .

the traverse has no pit zips or vented pockets in it., so if you're walking in warm weather you stand to swelter in it, i've overloaded event coats with sweat in heavy rain the traverse doesnt have external storm flap which can allow water in through the front zip in storm conditions.

look on somewhere like gearbuyer.com to see what deals you can get. might need to use a mail forewarding comapny for some brands.

Traverse has waterproof zip and internal storm flap also.

There is a point in warm rain where you can overload any jacket with sweat. If it is that warm there is an argument for not wearing a jacket, using an umbrella or a poncho ...
