Overland Track Information Package

Postby jdwalk » Sat 27 Sep, 2014 9:19 am

Hi all, just wondering if it's worth buying the info pack.
https://shop.parks.tas.gov.au/ProductInfo.aspx?id=19

I have collected so much info on the OT that I am thinking about just buying a map and saving a few $$.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Just get the map and Chapman's Book. Don't bother with the rest.

You can browse the Visitor centre at the start to see if you do want it.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

The map and Chapman guide book are 32.90 in total at the Melbourne Map centre.
Shipping was 10 last time I was there.

Just the map is $15 at the visitor centre.

All should be available in adelaide too for the same/similar prices.

Make sure you get the waterproof one.

jd you could save in just buying the map, online or at the parks vc. Chapmans guide or one of the others are good alternates to the P&W book.
Depending on what else you've read (including anything you rely on from here) i'd get the parks version of the handbook as well or at least, the latest is actually good value imo,
I'd also take instruction from the parks site and info they provide on booking as a precedent over anything here. There are some good topics and many accurate references on here but far from all reliable/ current info.
