I thought i would just throw it out there, but your compass is magnetic, be awear that your metal/electrical items ie. watch, GPS, cooking items etc will effect the deviation of your compass depending on their proximity to the compass when taking a sight.

Maybe you have a suunto mc2 compass with a big bubble in it.
