Hi Folks
I am heading into the Never Never once again in Jan 2015 heading up to Junction Lake , any news on tracks, log crossings etc would be appreciated.

I was recently at junction lake hut so my trip report has that section but not up to the never never sorry

Did that walk a number of years ago. Might not have picked the best route through the Never Never but made it to Hartnet eventually. We did cross at a log that everyone had marked as a waypoint. Not on the log rather near the log. Water was cold and waist level. Think that after McCoy Falls the track might actually stick to the river edge whereas we headed for the forest near the hillside. I have other info if required (by pm). But as I said this was a number of years ago and things may well have changed.

From what I've heard John, no one picks a good route through the Never Never!

It seems to be a try-and-see sort of a deal - a bit of trial and a whole lot of error.

Thanks of this. I have walked along here a few times - mostly down stream and not had to many problems, but a gap of 6 years between trips has dimmed my memory so just dying to recall it all. No doubt logs have changed and shifted.

Hopefully someone who has been up there recently will chime in. But I was talking to gent a few weeks ago who was telling me all about his trip up through the never never and I mentioned this infamous log and he laughed at me and said the way he goes is easy and theres no need for the so called log and questioned if its even still there.

I know thats of no help to you but it seems there is an easy way through.

Yup yup..I'm not overly concerned. Just wondering if there are any updates I should know about. Surprised in a lot of ways no ones ever put any tape markers through there so we don't get a run of routes all over the show...see's a fair chuck of traffic as far as I'm aware.

Yeh I was talking to a ranger only yesterday morning and he was giving me some figures of the amount of people through there. I don't recall the amount but it surprised me.
They use some sort of traffic counter apparently!

I crossed the Never Never with mate in Oct. 2013 when the area was experiencing record rains. So the Mersey was running high and pretty hard. We found a crossing at [coordinates removed by moderator in line with rule 24.]. We waded across with no problems. If we could do it then I would assume that it would be a good crossing point any other time. Water didn't quite make it up to my boxers and I'm 5"8. Did I mention it snowed or sleeted the entire trip. Well except the last day from echo point hut.

Yeaa...we were up there the other day and it had been snowing and raining pretty consistently on and off. Big jam of logs still providing a reasonable crossing upstream of McCoys - and plenty of OK spots to wade lower down. Worst sections of the pad we found were around Hartnett area.
