Automatic Weather Station on AAWT?

Postby Stew63 » Mon 06 Jun, 2016 12:50 am

I notice on the Rooftops Mt. Howitt Adventure Map (V5 2012) there is an Automatic Weather Station depicted along the AAWT about 1.5km south of King Billy No.2. Is this correct? If so is it functional and is the weather information available online somewhere?

You can get a list of all BOM weather stations by lat and lon, if this helps. I know the Mt Tamboritha one is there. Click 'list of all sites'

I can't recall one between KB2 and Chesters but it was a bit foggy. Mt Buller should be a reasonable substitute.

Thanks for the replies - I'm well aware of the alternative weather stations available - I'm curious as to this specific weather station depicted on the map along the AAWT and to whether it actually exists and if so if it's functional. I can't see anything listed on the BOM site.

On the BOM website, when you look at observations by map there is a site called High Rdge, Nbr 83094. In the list it is 83094 HOWITT PLAINS (HIGH RIDGE) -37.2236 146.6021 . That seems to be the nearest one.

Yeah that looks like the right one, I remember seeing something between the Billies and Mt Clear, after you cross the 4WD track.

Thanks for the info. - yep that looks like the one! Unfortunately the 83094 AWS weather info. is not real time, not online and only available on request from the BOM. Thought it could have been a useful little weather station :(
Looks like it may only record rainfall data alone...
