TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I am married to a wonderful woman who I am trying to get into the outdoors, and the biggest problem we have is getting a wind and waterproof layer to fit a big person. Bought her a Swiss Army poncho, fits, she will not wear Olive Drab or any sort of camouflage and she is reluctant to get a poncho, any thoughts or ideas??

Hi Moondog55

If you are happy to purchase from overseas via the web, I would strongly recommend looking at the LLBean website for gear for the larger lady. Their regular women's sizes "misses" go up to size 16-18 and their larger women's sizes "womens" go up to size 26-28. I use and recommend their "Waterproof Storm Jacket" for winter walking and XC/backcountry skiing and their "Trail Model Rain Jacket" for lightweight rain protection in 3 season/non scrub-bashing walking. Both are waterproof and breathable and come in very pretty colours (no camoflage!).

Good luck!

Well I have just wasted a full day shopping in Melbourne, bought my beloved a BLUE poncho and the advice from all staff at all shops was "Use the net and buy from America" So I will, but I don't think that what is available in the really big sizes is more than an interim measure until she looses a little weight, 5then we can buy some good stuff.

Rays Outdoors have construction Safety clothing in huge sizes so if I get stuck she can wear "DAYGLO" Not!!!
LOL

Thanx all for the help

BTW Backpacking lite have a huge sale on Pertex pack-away windproofs if you need some really good value stocking fillers, all half price, and theyed sold out of my size in the one I wanted too. Boo Hiss

Just in case there are others looking for this sort of sizes we have found an American company that actually do real clothes for big girls, including mesh and wicking stuff. haven't bought any yet but this may encourage my lovely to come with me at least once or twice and Spencer Street railway station can be positively Arctic sometimes
