Mermaid Mountain from Gold Creek Dam

Starting from the end of Gold Creek Road, Brookfield, this walk takes you to Mermaid Mountain mostly via the Gold Creek Boundary Break, exploring the woodland of Gold Creek Reservoir and D’Aguilar NP along the way. Expect a really demanding journey that’ll reward you with panoramic views over the hinterland. Even if you’re not satisfied with the views, you’ll be satisfied with yourself after completing this strenuous hike. It’s not all hardships along the way though, you’ll get great views of the reservoir and be surrounded by butterflies if you’re lucky. The track can be a great training option for high-level trail runners as well. Keep in mind that to get the best of views, you might need to do some rock scrambling at the end. Remember to take plenty of water and wear grippy shoes to be safe. Minimal to non-existent signposting means you’ll need to download offline maps or/and bring a GPS device along. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From Gold Creek Reservoir Carpark(near Gold Creek Dam), head towards the signposted gate along the gravel path. Head over the little stile next to the gate. When you come to the fork, veer left and pass by the green directional signpost(to your right). Pass by the nursery to your right and turn left shortly after crossing Gold Creek to continue along Mermaid Mountain from Gold Creek Dam Track.....

Find the gate at the start. At the intersection of Gold Creek Boundary Break & Gold Creek Road continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. Find the sign at the start. After another 105 m cross the bridge (about 15 m long) After another 25 m pass the toilet (30 m on your right).
	Turn left. After another 45 m pass the picnic table (20 m on your left). Continue straight.
	After another 160 m turn left, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break.
	After another 95 m (at the intersection of Gold Creek Boundary Break & Gold Creek Reservoir Walking Track) continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break.
	After another 550 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 75 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break.
	After another 1.2 km continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 630 m (at the intersection of Gold Creek Boundary Break & Layhys Break) continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 335 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 345 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 690 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break. After another 1.2 km head through/around the gate.
	After another 740 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break.
	After another 295 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Break.
	After another 900 m (at the intersection of Gold Creek Boundary Track & Gold Creek Boundary Break) veer right, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Track (a highway\|bridleway). After another 25 m continue straight, to head along Gold Creek Boundary Track.
	After another 205 m turn left. After another 55 m continue straight. After another 25 m head down the very steep (10% ~ 5.7°) incline (about 3.3 km long) Continue straight.
	After another 470 m turn left. After another 155 m veer left.
	After another 20 m turn right. After another 40 m continue straight.
	After another 2.4 km come to "Mermaid Mountain". Turn around here and retrace the main route for 11 km to get back to the start.
