Steub Trail

Starting from the Cleland Wildlife Park car park near the Barking Gecko Café off Mounty Lofty Summit Road, Cleland National Park, this walk takes you to the summit of Mount Lofty and back via the Steub Trail. Named in honour of park benefactor, Mr Ludwig Reinwald Steub, this trail is a gentler, more undulating alternative to the steep and popular trail from Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty, providing the option for visitors to walk or cycle from Cleland Wildlife Park to Mount Lofty. The trail climbs gently through heathy woodland forest communities, offering stunning views over the park's southern ridges and across the Adelaide Plains, ending at the Mount Lofty summit lookout, which provides panoramic views of the Adelaide city skyline and the coast beyond. The trail has a recycled asphalt surface and gentle, low-gradient access, making it an ideal option for families with kids and prams, the elderly or people with reduced mobility. Visitors can either leave a car at both ends, arrange a lift from the Mount Lofty car park or return via the same route. This walk consists of gently undulating shared-use trails, with some boardwalk sections, suitable for most fitness levels. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the Cleland Wildlife Park car park near the Barking Gecko Café off Mounty Lofty Summit Road, Cleland National Park, follow the path towards the café, passing a 'Cleland Wildlife Park' sign, then head along the path directly ahead to your left. After about 50m, you'll cross a road and see a 'Bushwalking Information' signboard with several informative signs on the other side. From there, follow the trail ahead and continue the Steub Trail.....

After another 205 m (at the intersection of Nangare Track & Steub Trail) continue straight, to head along Nangare Track (a vehicle track).
	After another 95 m (at the intersection of Steub Trail & Waterfall Gully Trail) turn left, to head along Steub Trail (a highway\|cycleway). After another 30 m pass the "Mt Lofty Cottage YHA" (45 m on your right).
	After another 470 m turn left, to head along Steub Trail. After another 150 m cross the bridge (about 70 m long) After another 95 m (at the intersection of Steub Trail & Mount Lofty Summit Road) continue straight, to head along Steub Trail. After another 65 m (at the intersection of Warre Track & Summit Road) continue straight, to head along Warre Track (a vehicle track). After another 20 m head through/around the gate.
	After another 3 m (at the intersection of Access Trail & Warre Track) continue straight, to head along Access Trail (a footpath). After another 255 m pass the "Mt Lofty Summit Car Park" (10 m on your left).
	After another 55 m (at the intersection of Waterfall Gully Trail & The Discovery Walk) veer left, to head along Waterfall Gully Trail. After another 35 m pass the "The Mount Lofty Summit Restaurant and Café" (20 m on your left). W:www.mountloftysummit.com After another 25 m pass a seat (on your right). About 40 m past the end is a toilet. About 10 m past the end is a viewpoint. About 10 m past the end is a seat. About 15 m past the end is "Mount Lofty". About 20 m past the end is a water tap. About 40 m past the end is "Mount Lofty Summit Visitor Information Centre".
	Turn around here and retrace the main route for 3.6 km to get back to the start.
