Parcel lost between US and Sydney

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

HaHa, thanks Melinda, doubtful - the bugger is off walking now and I've come down with a cold :( Soooo depressed, doubt I'll be well enough by Friday, I've got my fingers crossed I'll be right by Saturday, but that's one less day, whole agenda is up the spout

Scarp is so simple, it's a great design - first pitch in the backyard took 5 mins, my other tent took me half an hour to figure out!

So feeling "down" is not over-stating it?

I had the wrong head-torch model sent to me following an e-bay puchase from a US seller. I had to send the item back. It was another 4 weeks before I received the correct item.

I'm currently waiting for another item from the US with a shipping delay of about 6 weeks (ordered 2 weeks ago). I'm hoping that I receive it before I depart for Taswegia in 5 weeks.

G'day melinda,
Sorry to read about you plight however it may well be a lesson learned for the rest of us when buying untried from over seas "go for the next size up" normally it wont be too big just generous whereas too small is just that :(

Glad you've got your stuff Dan, and Melinda, pity about the size. I've got stuff on the way too, some bushwalking gear and a music book so it's good to know there might be a bit more of a wait, although I've always had to wait a while for stuff from the US. Much quicker from the UK, but I did have one package from there not turn up. Some things I post from here to the more out of the way places on the mainland can take 2 weeks.

Hi guys,
Difference in sizing between companies really is frustrating.
I have a Outer Limits down jacket in a men's small that is too big. (But great for adding layers under.)
I have a Montbell down vest in a women's medium that is perfect.
Now waiting on a WM men's medium.
I guess WM really does run true to the inch measurements they give on their site! (derrr...)

It's a rip off of the Akto that's why it's such a good design. Akto takes around 2 minutes to set up.
Nothing to see here.

It's a rip off of the Akto that's why it's such a good design. Akto takes around 2 minutes to set up

The only similarity with the Akto is the mid hoop pole, otherwise all the other details are different.
Most of the other single hoop tents on the market are a lot closer to Akto than the Scarp, that is , once you see them in reality.
The panels are different, vents on top, two doors, two vestibules, supported ends (two 'pitch locks" and one strut each) different tie out points, , more head and footroom, freestanding option, can fit two standard mats..... but apart from that they are exactly the same...
(are we sure that the Akto was the first shelter designed with a cross hoop pole ?)

I shouldn't laugh but my latest parcel is taking longer to go from Melbourne to Hobart than it did to get from the USA to Australia. And it went through the clearing agency without a hitch several days ago!

Heh blacksheep,
When Macpac starts making down gear as light and beautiful as WM then I will be all yours.
And by the way, when I have visited the Sydney store I was ignored by the beautiful young staff member there! :?

well, no way we'll weigh less then... we use 825loft, 15D and 20D fabrics, but more like 160gm- 180gm of fill (alpinists must be softer here in NZ)

Maybe you can catch up on the fabric: Average Total Weight 9-11 oz. (255-311g)

You should get into this stuff Cam, there's money to be made in selling less for more, just ask the swimwear dept.

There is a trade off (off course..) with those really light jackets. My WM Flash loses several "feathers" (usually ,but not always, through the seams) every time I use it.
I manage to rescue some, just to minimise the loss. (!)
It was a bit off putting the first few times but I am getting used to it .
(not a Brett type item....)

Sounds like it will be more suitable for people who are after a warmer down jacket - sounds more comparable to the Montane North Star jacket (http://www.montane.co.uk/products/women ... jacket/284) - Women's UK size 12 - fill weight - 200g of 800+ loft down; total weight - 460g)

Been after this for some time.

Cam,
I walk with a club in Sydney and 100's of members carry the older Ravines. Starting to see the newer Ravines about too.

yes, these weigh around 2kg (so not so heavy either), but as they are made with (Aussie made) 12oz Aztec canvas they will last longer than UL packs take to breakdown in landfill ...it's all about what one values..

Fair enough, knees are good... Me, well, I like the idea that sustainability begins with products that last (and If pressed further will admit I can lose 200gms of my butt for the same net gain (loss?).
I actually invested in a Ti mtb and road bike a few years back, and while I push a few more grams around than some riding mates plastic fantastic (carbon) bikes, mine will last be decades I reckon. I like that.
I do see the allure and attraction of lightweight gear too..last week walking on the St.James I carried a new explorer (which weighs 2.00kg whereas the ravine weighs 2.05kg), and I was able to slip a few extra chocolate fish into my lolly bag! awesome! (but my butt size stayed static in this instance)
